🧠 Teagan’s Award-Winning Neuroscience Poem: A Brainy Inspiration (and More!)
Big brains, bold ideas, and Teagan’s creative wisdom — inspiring brain health for all ages!
I'm incredibly proud to share my niece Teagan’s 2024 Neuroscience for Kids award-winning poem about her brilliant brain! Last year, she spent weeks after school carefully crafting each line. With creativity and determination, she sounded out the letters of the word B-R-A-I-N and paired each one with her favorite thing at school that started with that letter.
It was amazing to see her lateral thinking in action—each idea flowed from her curiosity and excitement to learn. Teagan’s poem is a sweet reminder that kids are natural explorers when it comes to their brains and they can teach us just as much as we teach them.
Her creativity continues to inspire me and she’s actually the reason I wrote A Kids Book About Brain Health. She’s always eager to tell me about the cool things she’s learning in school—whether it's facts about hurricanes and tsunamis, a new dance move, a funny joke, or reading me a new book.
Teagan played a key role in helping me develop additional resources to go along with it. Together, we created a series of coloring pages featuring brain health-inspired inspirational quotes. These pages are designed to spark conversations about brain care while offering a fun, creative way for kids (and adults) to relax and unwind. (You may notice her unicorns, flowers, and rainbows suggestions.)
From reminders like "Your brain is amazing- just like you!" to affirmations like "Be kind to your mind," these quotes were handpicked and coloring tested with Teagan’s thoughtful input (she said they were “fun”). Each one reflects the positivity and curiosity she brings to learning about her brain every day.
I'm sharing her poem and these resources in hopes of inspiring conversations about brain health with kids and adults alike. Here’s to many more Teagan Tuesday posts featuring her wisdom—because no matter our age, we all have something to learn about taking care of our amazing brains.
Below is my book dedication note to Teagan.
